The following is the script I wrote for class on the twenty fifth. I used
Scripped, so
you can also view it with fancy formatting.
ACT ONE
SCENE ONE
BREHOB studies quietly in a coffee shop. Jenkins approaches and sits down.
BREHOB finishes what she's writing, then looks up.
BREHOB
(POLITELY) Thank you for meeting with me.
JENKINS
Of course.
BREHOB
It will really help with my project.
JENKINS
Well, I just want to get my fair say.
BREHOB
Of course. I hope you understand that I don't entirely disagree.
JENKINS
Oh, you've made it pretty clear that you disagree.
BREHOB
Not really! I think your book makes some excellent points! I just think it's slightly incomplete. I mean, yes, it's very possible to view the internet as a fan community migrated online. But that ignores so much of the internet's potential! What about other groups?
MUSIC CUE: ... GENERIC INSPIRATIONAL MUSIC STARTS PLAYING.
Groups of family and friends who don't necessarily share cultural interests but migrate online to facebook, twitter, or google+ in just as real a way? What about people who use the internet as a way to mitigate their relationship with multiple computers, and not multiple people? For example, using google docs so that one can access the same document from multiple computers, without taking advantage of tools for collaboration. Where does that fit into the web-as-extended-fandom?
JENKINS
(COUGHS AWKARDLY) Did I ever say my theory was all encompassing?
BREHOB
Not in your article. I just want you to acknowledge that it's not.
JENKINS
But I already have!
BREHOB
Not in so many words. (PAUSE) I'd like to hear it in so many words.
JENKINS
(HEAVY SIGH) Fine. My comparison is incomplete.
BREHOB
Thank you! High five.
BREHOB holds up her hand.
JENKINS
I'm not giving you a high five.
BREHOB
Come on! It's a sign of friendship and mutual respect.
JENKINS
Oh... all right.
BREHOB
Well, I should be going. It was good talking to you.
JENKINS
(DEJECTED) See you...
BREHOB
You too!
